6 week Wheel Throwing course at arc with Dragi Jankovic

May 15, 22, 29 & June 5, 12 & 19

The wheel throwing course will cover the foundation techniques of wedging clay, throwing basic cup or bowl forms, trimming, adding handles, and glazing. This course is a great introduction (or a refresher!) to working on the wheel, and working in a community studio. There will be ongoing demonstrations and plenty of work time.

The first five classes of each course will  involve  some theory on the properties of clay and  instruction on working directly with  clay and the 6th class will be a glazing class after works have been bisque fired.

All six-week clay classes include access Studio time during open hours, Thursday to Sunday 12 noon to 4pm for non members and unlimited access for members for the duration of the course. (Bookings in advance and Conditions apply).  No prior experience with clay necessary; this course is open to everyone

Participants are welcome to attend a gas kiln stacking day and a  firing day which will occur at the completion of the course free of charge.

For members and regular uses of the ceramic studio attending a kiln packing and fitting  will be an opportunity to be inducted into the safe use of the gas kiln under the supervision of Dragi to accrue hours that will contribute to a facility certified independent use of the gas kiln.

Textile Workshop: Making Banners with Dijanne Cevaal

8 March International Women's Day

This International Women's day draw inspiration from banners used in various movements, especially women's movements  such as the suffragette movement, to  provoke, empower and express ideas and and hopes for women in the 21st century. Our concerns are wide ranging and all worthy of expression. Banners often use the power of language but can also use simple graphic images to generate ideas and mottos.

Women have been such an important and integral part of the ideas and social agenda of Arc over its 40 years of existence by way of its posters, art, paintings ,sculptures, ceramics, music and  community activities- lets encapsulate some of that feeling  into banners which could be used at various activities in the future. Banners for all sorts of things were traditionally made from fabric so they could be reused and were often displayed around meeting rooms.

Dijanne will help you create your own banner and  will supply  most of the materials needed including needles and thread ( we will work by hand) but do bring your own materials and equipment if you have it. Bring your own lunch/food to share.

Cost $10.00

Brewed Coffee and tea will be available
