The upcoming  3 hour wheel throwing and 3 hour hand building courses  are for  beginners to intermediate and advanced participants with a limit of only 4 participants per Class.
The courses begin on Thursday 14th  October and Sunday the 17th October. There is a wheel throwing session in the morning for 3 hours 10am to 1pm. The cost  $295 for non members and $275 for members.  The Hand building sessions are afternoon sessions starting at 1:30pm to 4:30pm. The wheel throwing course will cover the foundation techniques of wedging clay, throwing basic cup or bowl forms, trimming, adding handles, and glazing. This course is a great introduction (or a refresher!) to working on the wheel, and working in a community studio. There will be ongoing demonstrations and plenty of work time.

In  the hand building course  we will cover the basics of hand building, an ancient technique used to create pots and sculpture without the use of a potter's wheel. You can use these skills to create a many of objects, both functional and sculptural.

You will leave this class with an understanding of pinched, coil, and slab construction; how to use equipment such as a slab roller and extruder; and surface treatments such as creating texture in clay. This class is perfect for those looking to see quick results and is open for beginners and advanced students

The first five classes of each course will  involve  some theory on the properties of clay and  instruction on working directly with  clay and the 6th class will be a glazing class after works have been bisque fired.

All six-week clay classes include access Studio time during open hours, Thursday to Sunday 12 noon to 4pm for non members and unlimited access for members for the duration of the course. Bookings in advance and Conditions apply.  No prior experience with clay necessary; this course is open to everyone

There is extra cost for clay, firings and some glazes.

Participants are welcome to attend a gas kiln stacking day and a  firing day which will occur at the completion of the course free of charge.

For members and regular uses of the ceramic studio attending a kiln packing and firing  will be an opportunity to be inducted into the safe use of the gas kiln under the supervision of Dragi to accrue hours that will contribute to a facility certified independent use of the gas kiln.
