Off the Leash Theatre with Teeth Present ‘The Children’ by Lucy Kirkwood, Directed by Jeannie Haughton

  • Arc Switchroom at arc yinnar 19 Main Street Yinnar, VIC, 3869 Australia (map)

In the next show Off The Leash Theatre is bringing on the Seniors. Literally. And like the local sports teams, what they lack in zip is replaced by experience and cunning.

John Black, Annette O Shea and Rebecca Para are some of OTL’s most experienced actors, having decades of shows under their belt. They’re presenting THE CHILDREN by Lucy Kirkwood, a multi award winning play from a multi award winning playwright which has been presented across the world mostly by professional companies. Environmental themes, baby boomers and children; the past, present and future colliding on one afternoon when an old work mate calls on two retired scientists.

Director Jeannie Haughton says of the play: It has been described as a “tenacious and thorny think-piece about scientific ethics and the limits of self-interest,” which may sound heavy. But think again: let a nuclear physicist on a scooter, yoga, and a beach house with a complicated toilet knock that idea out of your head. This is a superb performance and one Off The Leash Theatre is very proud to bring to Gippsland. The show will be touring from Neerim South to Stratford and Yinnar, then back to Wesley of Warragul and Emerald.

Have you ever thought of theatre as another form of sport? Rehearsals are like training- those hours of challenging repetitions, the plotting of positions and strategies, the connection to teammates and reliance on them to have your back?

And the big day. Expecting the best, fearing the worst; plenty of critics out there, watching your every move; crowds close enough to see the sweat, the fumbles, the intensity and focus of every moment.

And it’s live. It’s alive. Thrills for the players and spectators alike. Learning by heart the inside-outs of between 10,000- 15,000 words is a remarkable feat. Witnessing perfect dialogue with perfect nuance and seamless timing is like watching an elite athlete in slow motion.

So join us to see a different set of elites at work. You will cheer and applaud the remarkable talent we have in this area, cast and crew giving their all to tell a relevant big issues story.  Heart. Talent. Teamwork.
