Linocut Workshop with Heather Shimmen Arc Yinnar
The emphasis of the workshop is an exploration of calligraphic mark making etc translated into a Linocut. We will experiment with layering of colour with the possible incorporation of stencils and chine Colle as part of the layering process. There will be demonstrations of image transfer, cutting a block and printing.
You can bring....
* reference material- ie Plant material/ flowers, or some kind of object to refer to to if you want to make direct drawings or calligraphic painting onto the linoblock.
*drawings- Bring a drawing which is linear as this works the best for both transferring onto the Lino and for the outcome of the Linocut.Tonal areas are difficult (but not impossible) to do as Linocuts. *photographs - can be used as a reference
Materials are provided but if you want to you can bring some lightweight papers for chine Colle a collage process eg old music scores, maps , wrapping paper, Japanese Papers etc.any light weight papers.

Heather Shimmens masterclass will incorporate lino block, cine colle and collage with ink wash, drawing and carbon paper tranfer techniques. The advantage of this masterclass is that it helps artists free up from being caught in a single specific processes. Heather's workshop is more about using the tools and devices found in print studios to create an artwork rather than "making an etching" or "making a relief print", it's about feeling confident and versatile in the print environment and thinking about how different techniques can combine to offer different visual effects. Any practiced artist can do this class because you already know about visual art aesthetics and the craft of making, which is what Heather builds the workshop from, using common printmaking tools and materials.
