In the hand building course we will cover the basics of hand building, an ancient technique used to create pots and sculpture without the use of a potter's wheel. You can use these skills to create many objects, both functional and sculptural.
You will leave this class with an understanding of pinched, coil, and slab construction; how to use equipment such as a slab roller and extruder; and surface treatments such as creating texture in clay. This class is perfect for those looking to see quick results and is open for beginners and advanced students
The first five classes of each course will involve some theory on the properties of clay and instruction on working directly with clay and the 6th class will be a glazing class after works have been bisque fired.
All six-week clay classes include access Studio time during open hours, Thursday to Sunday 12 noon to 4pm for non members and unlimited access for members for the duration of the course.
